Lifestyle Photography - Capturing the real moments...

I hear it all the time: “I don’t want my photos to look posed” and hey, I'm completely with you. Don't get me wrong, there is certainly a place for posed photos, however a lifestyle session allows for a more free flowing relaxed atmosphere. Think candid shots that serve to “capture the moment” versus staging a scene. It's more editorial approach...it's finding the story and telling it with photographs. It's a great way of integrating pure emotion and feeling into any genre of photography. With action driven details, it will bring your images to life over and over again.

This is a perfect example of an editorial, lifestyle shot. It was taken during Kevin and Hillary's first dance. Dancing in the pasture was a totally spontaneous decision...it was a very warm day and even warmer inside the barn so they decided to take the dancing outside just as the sun was going down. I think it's one of my favorite captures of the day.

Getting the kids involved: shooting lifestyle photography with your children

Believe it or not, the most successful shoots are often the ones that let the kids lead. It’s a magical, spirited time and there’s so much to take in. By sitting back and capturing those honest moments you’ll ensure a stunning shoot you’ll love for decades. Lifestyle photography is the perfect approach for capturing the beauty and authenticity of childhood. Make sure your little ones are well rested, make sure they’re comfortable and confident in both their clothes and their surroundings, and make sure you come armed with patience—then let the magic happen. A favorite snack, toy or book doesn’t hurt either!
